Troy Swiney aka DJ Sween, was born on March 17, 1970 in Coney Island Brooklyn, New York to Theodore Swiney Sr. and Nina Ruth McCoy-Swiney who preceded him in Heaven.
On Saturday, June 14, 2025 Troy went home to be with the Lord for eternal rest.

Troy grew up in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn where he crafted his talent of music, poetry and videography. Troy was always a busy young man, as the baby of the family he got away with everything, he was our father’s prince you could not touch him, we would get in trouble if we tried to discipline him. Our father would give him five dollars in quarters for allowance every weekend to play at the arcade on Clarkson Ave, and there he made lifelong friendships. His first best friend was his brother Christopher, they were always together.
Troy loved all genres of music, he fell in love with Hip Hop and wanted to be a rapper and DJ. Our father bought him his first DJ set, and over the years he enhanced his skills and started a DJ business with one of his best friends Todd Taylor of Taylor Made Productions. Troy mentored many youths in the neighborhood and taught them his love of music.
Troy was employed at TIAA-Cref, he attended night school and received his BA in Mathematics, Business Economics and Accounting in 1997 fromBrooklyn College while working full time and running his businesses on the side. As a videographer and self made Journalist Troy started ‘SaywordTV’ at BRIC Arts/Media/Brooklyn/BCAT Television. Troy interviewed many artist, worked at NY Fashion Week with 7on7th who his sister Michelle credits for encouraging her to be apart of. SaywordTV covered the West Indian Day Parade for many years, and traveled throughout the world and produced many shows during his career.

Troy loved to travel with his friends, he was a great friend to many! Troy loved his family, his favorite holiday was Thanksgiving the best time of year as it was also our mother’s. We would celebrate Sharon and Reggie birthdays along with all of mom’s favorite dishes. He adored his nephews, nieces and God-daughters they were all special to him, he loved everyone. Troy inspired and supported his nephew Justin’s music career, he was his mentor and confidant.

Memories of Troy’s precious life will be carried on through the love of his siblings; Theodore, Reginald, Denise, Sandra, Michelle, Sharon (deceased) and Christopher Swiney, his sister in-laws; Melody and Tamara, brother in-law Lyle, nephews and nieces; David (Kathy), Alton, Ki-yana, Justin, Sanaa, Reginald Jr., great nephews; David Jr., Mason, Joshua, and great niece; Zola, three uncles and six aunts (McCoy & Swiney), God daughters; Archangelus Jackson and Nyla James, as well as a host of many cousins, extended family, and friends. Troy will be gravely missed, though his memory will live on forever in our hearts.
