Tia Lynn Cranford

Beloved daughter, sister and aunt

Tia L. Cranford, of Clifton, passed away on January 7, 2020 after an extended illness.  A lifelong Staten Island resident, Tia was raised in Stapleton before moving with her family in 1979 to Clifton.  She attended P.S. 14, Dreyfus Junior High School 49 and was a 1983 graduate of St. Peter’s Girls High School, where she was a member of the Seton Chorale.  Following high school, she earned her bachelor and master’s degrees from the Audrey Cohen College in New York, NY.

Tia loved children and early in her career, she worked with young children as a teacher with several Staten Island day care centers.  These experiences increased her desire to make an impact with young people and she decided to pursue formal coursework at Audrey Cohen.  She later combined her practical experience, education and enthusiasm into roles as the beloved Parent Coordinator at P.S. 14   and The Eagle Academy for Young Men, both in Stapleton.  Giving back to her community through her membership in the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., North Shore Section was also important to her.

Family will receive guests on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 6-8 pm at the Stradford Home for Funerals and Cremations, West Brighton.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 13 at the St. Philips Baptist Church in Port Richmond, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery.

Tia was the beloved daughter of the late Sandra P. and S. Warren Cranford, sister of Todd (Jacqueline), aunt of Sydney and Sean, and friend to many.
