Shahidah Peterson, a lifelong Staten Islander known for her creativity, warmth, and love of life’s moments, passed away on December 29, 2025, at the age of 41. Shahidah lived a short life, but a full life, marked by creativity, connection, and joy.
She was born on November 13, 1984, and raised on Staten Island, New York, a place that always remained home. Shahidah attended Port Richmond High School and earned an associate degree from Wood Tobe-Coburn College. She was a gifted and creative spirit who loved drawing, painting, knitting, and crafting. Her passion led her to create her own business, With Love, Sha, where her artistry and personal touch shone through every piece.
An avid reader with a curious and imaginative mind, Shahidah loved to travel, celebrate special occasions, and spend meaningful time with family and friends. She had a natural ability to bring joy and intention to gatherings, large and small. A devoted cat lover shared a special bond with her beloved cat, Little Baby.
Shahidah was admired for her loyalty and strong work ethic. She worked at Chili’s Restaurant for 20 years, where she built lasting relationships and was respected for her dedication and genuine care for others.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Glover; her maternal grandmother, Irene Maple; her paternal grandmother, Catherine Peterson; her grandfather, Mack Peterson; and her uncles Nathan Peterson and Stanley Maple.
Shahidah is survived by her father, Michael Peterson, and bonus mother, Diane Peterson; her brothers Michael Raheem Peterson Jr. (partner Amanda) and Darius Ajani Peterson; her niece Aundrea Nancy Beth Peterson; her nephew Michael Raheem Mack Peterson; her uncles David Peterson, Daniel Peterson (wife Serina Peterson), and Johnathan “Butch” Peterson; her aunts Deborah Johnson (husband Brock Johnson) and Taqiyyah Mujahid; and many friends, family and cousins who will forever cherish her presence and spirit.
Shahidah Peterson will be remembered for the beauty she created, the joy she shared, and the authentic way she lived and loved. Her legacy lives in the art she made, the memories she gifted, and the hearts she touched.
