Mr. Richard Paul Speller, son of the late Lannie Wrench was born April 29, 1952, at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan New York. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 26th, 2023. His granddaughter Anastasia Grace Speller preceded him in death.
Richard attended the College of Staten Island where he received a Bachelor’s Degree. He was affectionately known as “Slick Daddy”, by his family and friends. Slick LOVED his beloved New York Yankees. He was a movie buff with a massive movie collection. From “The Sopranos”, to “Earth, Wind, & Fire”, he loved to watch movies and concerts. Gladys Knight was one of his favorite singers, but he also loved Mahalia Jackson. His love of baseball, PlayStation, WWE wrestling, golf, watching old sitcoms, and solving trivia questions on “Jeopardy”, is how he spent his relaxation time.
He was a hardworking man. Some might even say, a workaholic. He enjoyed working in social services, helping people with Special needs and Juveniles. His jobs included New York State Mt. Loretto, Community Resources Staten Island, and NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (SIDDSO). In 2021, he retired from NYC Department of Juvenile Justice as a Youth Development Specialist.
His daughter Monic believed he was the best father he knew how to be. He was there for us when we needed him the most. Always with a sarcastic “slick” comment, to lighten a moment. That is how he brought comfort and support to his family, through his sense of humor.
He is survived by his 4.5 children: Kisha Alexandria Speller Hawkins (Antuane L.), Monic Sherry Speller, Andre Paul Speller (Megan Elizabeth), Alexandria Speller and William Speller (Kisha and Monic’s brother). His grandchildren: Naquaya Nazarene Speller, Antuane Isaiah Hawkins, Andre Malik Speller, Nia Nicole Hawkins, Treymere Paul Speller, Giovanni Michael Capps, and Dominic Williams Smith. He is also survived by his ex-wife Sue E. Speller, Angela O’Neal, and Wendy Buel, along with a host of relatives and friends.
