Obituary

Richard F. Astwood Jr. was born on December 20,1960 to the late Geneva and Richard F. Astwood Sr. Out of that union, Richard was the fifth born of eight children.

Growing up in Mariners Harbor on Continental Place, Richie aka Shavers; enjoyed football, basketball, drawing, and having fun with friends and family. Richie was the protector of the neighborhood, he was very charitable, and he modeled a heroic image. He also had an unwavering love for his younger siblings.

Richie’s career in carpentry was another passion he excelled in. He was a dedicated and selfless man in everything he did. He was a great provider for his children and grandchildren whom he loved to spoil. He was a selfless provider who always made sure there was food on the table and a roof over their heads. Richie's selfless nature made him a blessing to many people that may have needed a place to call home, clothes on their backs, or just a friend that gave good advice. He was everyone’s “Uncle” Richie.

Richie was a phenomenal father and his favorite job was being a great Pop Pop to his grandchildren. He was a loyal friend and protector of his siblings. Richie’s sunset was January 1, 2021.  He is survived by his siblings Carol Josey ,Gloria Bivins, Darrell Astwood, Beverly Astwood, and Michael Astwood.  Sisters; Shirley Astwood and Barbara Opong-Weirdu, preceded him in death. His children Trella Astwood, Azaria Astwood, Elise Astwood and Rasheed, Jahbry and Jade were his pride and joy. With them, aunts, uncles, neices, nephews, cousins and friends; will miss him dearly.
