Ms. Rebecca Clay, daughter of the late Rufus Clay and Octavia Jackson was born November 1, 1936, at home in West Greene, Alabama. She went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 13, 2025. She is preceded in death by her older sister Bernice Barnes, older brothers Walter and Marshall Jackson and her younger brothers Lonnie Jolly, Nathanial and Jimmy Clay. She is survived by her sister Mary and Rufus Clay
Rebecca attended Greene County Training School for most of her education and eventually went on to get her GED. After having her three children Bernice, Johnny and Juanita Clay, she decided to relocate to New York in 1959 so that she could have a better life. She was a hard working woman who worked Omni Metal for over two decades before transitioning to Stella Orton, the occupation from which she would retire. Rebecca was a home health aide for over 30 years and took great pride in her work. Rebecca was always known for healthy and helpful spirit. In her downtime, she enjoyed watching Star Trek, knitting/crocheting, cooking and taking care of her family. Rebecca spent her New York life within the five boroughs and the larger portion of it right here on Staten Island. After retiring in 2013, she moved down to Virginia with her oldest daughter, Bernice, where they stayed for nine years before transitioning back up north in 2022.
Rebecca would return to her roots in the deep south regularly to spend time with her very large family. She is survived by her 3 children: Bernice Ford (the late Levi Ford), Johnny Clay and Juanita Dancy (Isaac Dancy). Her 11 grandchildren: Levi Ford IV, Nafeesah Ford, Rasheed Ford, Sam Clay, Marquis Clay, Rahim Clay, Isaac Clay, and twins Eric and Erica Clay. She is preceded by two grandchildren who left this world all too soon, Maurice James Clay and Jamal Fareed Ford. Rebecca leaves to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and her legacy will live on for generations to come. We will certainly miss Grandma Beck.
