Rashaird D. Reid , was born on July 26th, 1977 to Shirley A. Belton and David Reid, in Killeen Texas. He was the second child born from their union . Shortly after his birth , the family moved back to New York, where they settled in the Mariners Harbor section of Staten Island.
Rashaird, affectionately nicknamed "Shard" by the family and "Shuga Muga " by his mother , attended Port Richmond Day Care , I.S. 51 and later Port Richmond High School. During these formative years , he developed a love for football, a sport he continued to enjoy well into adulthood.
From a young age, Rashaird showed signs of being extremely intelligent and curious. He enjoyed watching Channel 13 PBS and educational programs with the same enthusiasm that others had for music videos. On saturday mornings , he often commandeered the remote control , making sure he had full authority over which cartoons were played.
Rashaird also believed he was a master chef . As a child , he loved experimenting in the kitchen, confidently concocting meals and snacks that only he and his little brothers Sani and Jason would eat.
Rashaird was the one in the family who helped the children with their homework. It wasn't foreign to walk in the house to find he would have delissea, shate , dayquan, lil Sheidah and Rhasheed around the kitchen table assisting them with homework or some activity. Rashaird loved children and being around people and you didn't have to be blood related to become family.
We always had a house full of my brother's friends. I use to give them a hard way to go but secretly I knew it was a blessing to have brothers who shared a strong bond, and through those bonds many of their friends became family.
Throughtout his life , Rashaird held various long-term jobs and took pride in his hard work. Yet if you asked him what his greatest accomplishments were he would undoubtedly and without hesitation say that nothing in his life meant more to him than the birth of his children.
Rashaird possessed a quiet determination , much like his daughter Kymahni. He carried a no-nonsense yet deeply caring attitude , along with the most beautiful dimples you had ever seen , just like his daughter Jai-Lynn. He had the knowledge of an encyclopedia ,a trait he shared with his son Jahleil and a self-confidence that could not be shaken , much like his daughter Kenya.
Rashaird is preceded in death by his grandmother Carrie Glenn and his uncle Benjamin"Bobby" Belton.
Rashaird is lovingly remembered by his children Kymahni Reid , Jai-lynn Reid , Jahleil Reid, Kenya Reid and their mother Latoya Willis. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother Shirley A. Belton, his siblings Rashida , Hasani (OJ), Jason , Delissea , Shate , Dayquan and James. Rashaird had a special bond with his neices and nephew and they will miss him dearly along with his aunts uncles and cousins.
