Our beloved Peter Joseph Dawes, 76, went home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2021 in Staten Island, New York
He was born November 13, 1944, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies to Wilfred and Lucille Dawes. While in Jamaica Peter was a math teacher and worked as a professional driver for politicians and famous musicians. He also formed strong friendships with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Peter soon crossed paths with a beautiful woman named Gloria and they were married in 1981. He then immigrated to the United States in 1987 to begin a better life for him and his growing family.
Peter worked in Corporate Security and had a career with CitiBank spanning 18 years.
Peter was an active member of the community. He loved to sing, act and participated in various activities in the churches he attended. Peter was a teacher at heart. Peter especially enjoyed studying and teaching on the Bible. Some might say he was a walking bible himself.
Peter was also an avid soccer fanatic. If ever there was a game on, he would be glued to the television shouting and coaching from the couch. During the World Cup, he would be up all hours of the day and night watching all the matches that he can.
Peter always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone he encountered. He always made himself available to help in whatever capacity that he could. He was well known for his firm handshakes that would literally lift you off your feet and his loving hugs. Peter was loved by everyone who knew him.
Peter leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 40 years, Gloria Dawes; brothers Donovan, Freddy (Phyllis) and Phillip (Elaine) ; sisters Cecily, Sydney, Michele and Natalie; children, Haile, Thwani (Joshua), Franklin (Sonya), Byron, Janice, Wayne (Rose Marie), 16 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends
