Ollie C. Marion, 84, loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and woman of faith passed away at home on June 3, 2021, following a long illness.
A graduate of Southern University with a BS in Early Childhood Education, Ollie taught second grade for several years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before relocating to Staten Island with her husband Ernest in 1958. Once in New York, Ollie was employed by NYC Bureau of Child Welfare before a career change to the New York City Housing Authority. Following her retirement from a 35 year career with New York City as a recreation director, Ollie was known for her love of travel, having visited over 15 countries, some multiple times, during her lifetime. Ollie was also an avid bowler, bowling for many years with the Staten Island Golden Oldies league as well as an active member of AARP, serving as the Westerleigh Chapter president and an officer for several years. Ollie’s southern cooking and holiday meals were legendary and the highlight of every family celebration.
A woman of faith, she was a member of St. Phillips Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving on the Senior Ministry, Senior Usher Board, and scholarship committee.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ernest Marion in 2012.
Ollie is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Knight, son-in-law, Dr. James Knight, granddaughter, Sara Walker, grandson, Joshua Walker and his wife Catherine, her sister-in-love Louida Clinton, and a host of family and friends.
