Nadine was born in Harlem, New York on August 29, 1947 to the late Ernestine Joseph and Ned Deas. As a young girl she moved to the Mariner’s Harbor area of Staten Island where she grew up and attended Port Richmond High School. Nadine was employed by SIDDSO - New York State and worked for 40 years until she happily retired in 2006.
Nadine aka “Nae-Nae”, the matriarch and heart and soul of her family was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend who was known for her consistent beautiful smile and unique infectious laugh that uplifted many. She was an amazing vivacious woman who spread joy and happiness wherever she went. She had a heart of gold and there was nothing in this world that she would not do for her family and friends. Nadine lived for family events, dancing, listening to music and having a good time. She enjoyed travelling; specifically cruising – her favored mode of travel. Her favorite past-time was trips to Atlantic City where she went when she can for fun and relaxation.
Nadine was preceded in death by: her parents Ernestine Alexander and Ned Deas, step-father, Ceasar Alexander, and brother, George Joseph, Sr.
Nadine the oldest of all of her siblings is survived by her four children: Amelia Gravely-Darkinson (Roger), Arthur Gravely, Jr. (Ingrid), Yvette Gravely and Dashana Gravely. Six grandchildren: Isaiah, Elijah, Jabari, Arthur, India and Artez. Eight great-grandchildren: Antonio, Zayona, Aurianna, Say’vion, Asia’na, Zayden, Amir and A’nyla. Three sisters: Cynthia Alexander, Cecilia Alexander, Carolyn Alexander and only surviving brother, Ceasar Alexander, Jr. Several nieces and nephews whom she loved exceedingly, goddaughter Regina Bell, ex-husband, Arthur Gravely Sr, Sean and Shante Whitted, sister-in-law Ruth Gilmore and a host of other family and good friends including Eileen Lund and partner Edward Anderson.
