Michael G. Bernard, aka Uncle Mike, aka Jamaican Mike, died unexpectedly but peacefully on June 11, 2026, in Staten Island NY at the age of 70.
Michael was born on July 24, 1955 in Port Antonio, Jamaica West Indies to Cysoline Allen and Samuel Bernard. He came to the United States August 16, 1971. He attended Port Richmond High School and graduated June 1975. He went to Opportunities Industrialization Center of Rhode Island and graduated earning a Certificate in Building Maintenance September 1981. He worked most his life at the Port Authority of NY and NJ in their construction department specializing in fencing. Up until his time of death, he still helped out at the local furniture store on Port Richmond Avenue.
Mike enjoyed fishing, crabbing, cooking, and especially grilling for all the family occasions. He liked gardening, growing tomatoes, cucumber, herbs and even watermelon. He liked listening to several genres of music, especially reggae and his favorite artist was Bob Marley. You could always catch him singing and dancing in the backyard.
Mike is survived by his mother Cysoline Allen, sisters Dahlia Smith and Marcia Allen. Nieces Clorisa Allen, Tiesha Jackson, Tanequa Jackson and Jamarae Wade. Nephews Jahpaul Allen and Jamal Wade and a host of great Nieces, great Nephews cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Samuel Bernard and his younger brother Paul Allen.
