Marjorie Tucker Reed was born December 15, 1925 to Damond and Lula Tucker in Norfolk. Va.
At the age of 10 years old, Marjorie came to Staten Island, N. Y. to live with the family.
Marjorie received her education in the Public School System on Staten Island, attending
Public School 18 and McKee High School.
Along the way she met and married Edward Reed.
She was a member of Shiloh AME Zion Church Staten Island, N. Y. for many years, attending services with her brother Damon Tucker.
In 1946, as a young black woman, Marjorie entered into employment at Sea View Hospital S. I., N. Y.
Marjorie developed a desire to become a Practical Nurse and was accepted under what was called
A “waiver program” and graduated under said program. She applied her skills at Seaview Hospital taking care of those patients in need . Therefore becoming one of “THE BLACK ANGELS”
Although working in this field of medicine was not appealing to other nationalities, “THE BLACK ANGELS”
Were recruited to tend to the needs of the affected and did so under great stress and against all odds.
Marjorie later went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse applying those skills at other hospitals in the Metropolitan Area. However she returned to Sea View Hospital Rehab Center and Home to complete the circle and retired in 1988.
Marjorie Tucker Reed was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Sister Elizabeth, Brother Raymond,
Sister Dora, Sons, Raymond and Kenneth.
She lives to mourn her passing, Brother Damon Tucker, Grandchildren Lisa Britton. Tashia Dorsey,
Malil Reed, Kareem Reed, Tyrone McCray. 15 Great Grand Children, 5 Great Great Grand Children

A Mini Documentary Entitled “The Black Angels” premiered at the Staten Island Museum
This film told the story and history of the nurses that work at Sea View during the Tuberculosis Crisis
Included in this documentary along with Ms Virginia Allen was our own Marjorie Tucker Reed.
