Maddie Marie Valentine, 92, of Port Richmond, S.I., NY, passed away on March 24th, 2023. Maddie was born on March 7th, 1931, to Annie Lee Becton and Eddie Reid in Goldsboro, NC. Maddie, often called “Marie” was the loving mother of 2, James Thomas (4/15/49- 2/2/2010) and Janice Marie Stephenson (5/23/52-10/1/2020).
Marie moved from North Carolina to New York. In the 1960’s. She and her children were welcomed by her aunts and uncles already living in the city. Maddie and her children would live in various family homes from Clinton Ave to Faber St. Maddie and James divorced. In the 1970s. She would purchase her forever home on Harrison Ave. Maddie would go on to marry Dennis Valentine in 1978. Who predeceased her in death.
Maddie started working at Seaview Hospital and Home as a Dietary Aid, kickstarting a 30+ year career. She would be promoted to supervisor. In 1995, Marie retired to spend her time with her family and going on cruises with friends. She could always be found in her yard tending to her flowers.
Maddie was active in serval Community organizations. Marie joined St. Phillips Baptist church (Port Richmond) soon after arriving in New York. In the 80’s Marie would make Fellowship her home. She loved participating in fashion shows and bake sales.
Maddie was predeceased by her mother Annie Lee, father Eddie, Mom/Aunt Ethel Beatty, aunts and uncles and her children Jimmy and Janice. She is survived by her grandchild Janelle, Great grandchild Ashlynn, several God children, and many cousins.
