Louise Sherrell , 89, passed away on Friday, October 20th, 2023 after several weeks of major medical complications at the Staten Island University Hospital.
Louise Sherrell was born on August 20th, 1934 in Chambers County, Alabama to parents, Elzie Sherrell and Lela Boyd-Sherrell. Louise Sherrell was the last of the five children from that union. She graduated from the Birmingham, Alabama Parker High School in 1951, and the Booker T. Washington Business College in 1952.
Over the course of her life while living in and near the Parkchester section of the Bronx, Louise Sherrell worked at several companies, including the NYC Veterans Administration Hospital, NY Telephone, Standard Brands Inc., Macy’s, Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield, and lastly for Price Saving For HMO. Louise Sherrell finally retired in 1999.
Louise Sherrell was the mother of six children, grandmother to seven, and four great grandchildren. In her spare time, she liked to sew clothes, knit and crochet blankets and scarves. She enjoyed card games, computer games, and to take care of her children, and family.
After retirement and moving to Staten Island, Louise Sherrell found a new passion – the casino, visiting many places repeatedly. Recently Louise Sherrell has taken to artwork, word puzzles and Netflix.
Louise Sherrell is survived by her four children, Michael Sherrell, Debra Gerald, Jason Gerald and Vaness Gerald. Two of her children, Michelle Sherrell and Maulana Holmes predeceased Louise Sherrell. Louise Sherrell will be missed by nieces, nephews and friends.
