Latonya Nasha Whitlow, affectionately known to many as “Sha,” passed away leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and selflessness. Born on August 15, 1980, in Lanett, Alabama, to Hattie and Cecil Ray, Latonya brought light and joy to everyone around her from an early age.

Latonya was raised in Staten Island, New York, where she graduated from Concord High School and built a life centered around family, faith, and community. She united in marriage with her devoted husband, Asim Martinez, in Staten Island, sharing years of partnership and love.

A woman with a compassionate heart, Latonya dedicated her professional life to caring for others. She worked diligently as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and in food service, serving her community through her work at Anna Erica, A Very Special Place, and the Vanderbilt Nursing Home. Her gentle nature and patient spirit made a lasting impact on the residents and colleagues she interacted with every day.

Latonya was a faithful member of the Staten Island Prayer Band, where she shared her spiritual journey and devotion. Above all, Sha was a loving, caring, kind, funny, gentle, and patient mother, daughter, and sister. Her vibrant energy was infectious—she loved to sing, dance, cook, and bring laughter into any room she entered. Known for her wisdom and big heart, she always offered good advice to everyone she met, leaving people better than she found them.

Latonya leaves behind a devoted family to cherish her memory. She is survived by her parents, Hattie and Cecil Ray; her husband, Asim Martinez; her beloved children, Jaysheen Whitlow and Eternity Whitlow; and her grandmother, Mary Ray. She will be dearly missed by her sisters, Serwanda and Dominic Whitlow; her aunt, Mary Spratling; her uncle, Robert Ray; and her special friend, Deashon Beathea. Her legacy continues through her nieces, Shawnbria, Areil, and Dominique Whitlow; her nephews, Aquan, Deonque, and Nyheem Whitlow, and Canmen Hushinton; five great-nieces; four great-nephews; and her cousins, Calandra and Brodgerick Smith.

Latonya’s love, laughter, and comforting presence will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
