Evangelist Joyce Robin Hill was born in the Bronx, NY to Juniper James Hill and Anna Mae Johnson Hill on October 27, 1954. She attended elementary schools in Dorchester, MA and Brooklyn, NY. Joyce grew up in the church and was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 16 under the leadership of Bishop Ruth King at the Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church in Brooklyn. She graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School and attended LaGuardia Community College in Queens.
In her adulthood, she was a devout member of True Light Universal Bible Church of God under the leadership of Overseer Corinne Baldwin where she was an ordained Evangelist. She attended the Manhattan Bible Institute to solidify her ministry of winning souls for the Lord. She worked for the NYPD at One Police Plaza, International Life Insurance Company, the Salvation Army, and Brooklyn College before working for the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority as a Station Agent for 28 years until her retirement. There, she built deep, life-long friendships with people who became like family.
While many knew Joyce as a hard worker and saw her dedication and consistent involvement in church and missionary work, she was also a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Because she was so humble, some would even be surprised to learn that she was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and writing. On any day of the week, you could find Joyce rejoicing to her favorite gospel music - in fact, you could always find Joyce praising God for all that he has done. If you called her, she answered the phone saying, “Praise the Lord!” Her family will always remember Joyce’s beautiful soul as being a sweet, selfless, giving, caring, and loving person who loved to laugh and enjoy her friends and family. She was a woman of integrity within both her quietness and magnitude. She was righteous and devoted to her unwavering faith, while being a sister and friend who made it her mission to bring others to Christ.
Joyce is survived by her Mother in Love Rachel Hill, Daughter Melanie Hill-Cantey, Adopted Daughter Virginia “Zakiyya” Nelson, and Grandchildren Sha’heed Farrell and Victoria Farrell.
