John Wilson Bellamy a devoted family man and pillar of the Staten Island community, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 at the age of 88, following a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Nakina, North Carolina on February 25, 1937, to Lula Bellamy and Sylvester Bellamy. From the age of 21 John was a resident of Staten Island, New York where he built a life centered around service, hard work, and family.
For 65 years, he dedicated himself to the United Hebrew Cemetery on Staten Island, a place where his commitment and deep respect for others shone through in everything he did. His work was more than a job; it was a testament to his strong sense of community and his desire to provide for his family.
His quiet strength, gentle spirit, and loving nature earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. He was a beloved figure to countless others as well.
Outside of his work, John enjoyed gardening, carpentry and telling stories. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his family, whether it was at a holiday dinner, a backyard barbecue, or simply sharing stories.
John was a loving father to his four children. He instilled in them the values of hard work, kindness, and unwavering dedication, leaving a legacy that will be cherished for generations.
He is survived by his three children, Barbara Story, Sandra Hayden, and John Bellamy Jr.; his siblings Charlie Bellamy, Julious Bellamy, Diana Bellamy, and Ruthy Bellamy, his grandchildren
and a wide circle of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly. He was a doting grandfather to his 12 grandchildren, 30 great grand children and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and his son, Leon Chatman and 6 siblings.
Help us celebrate the remarkable life of a man who will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
