Jamika Nashell Moore was born on February 6, 1982, to Walter “Peter” Moore and Cherry Dowtin in Staten Island, New York. Jamika departed this life on August 6, 2023.
Jamika is preceded in death by her Father Walter Moore, Grandfather Rev. John T. Dowtin, Uncle Rickey Dowtin, Sister Mardice Moore, Cousins Maurice A. Allen, Rickey T. Dowtin and John T. Dowtin.
Jamika was raised in the West Brighton section of Staten Island. She received her education in the New York City Department of Education. Attending Public School 18, Intermediate School 27, and Susan E. Wagner High School.
Jamika was affectionately known as “Big Girl”. Jamika was a fun-loving family orientated person. Jamika loved to laugh and have a good time. She had an infectious laugh and beautiful bright smile. To know Jamika truly was to love her. Jamika was protective of her loved ones and always wanted to see them happy.
Jamika worked in retail prior to pursuing a career as a certified Home Health Aide. This was the perfect career for Jamika as she loved helping others. Jamika’s clients spoke highly of her. Her work and dedication led to her receiving the Caregiver of the month award in July 2023.
Of her accomplishments/ achievements and titles, the title Jamika was most proud of was mother. Jamika was the mother to three beautiful children: Aniya, Trayvon, and Jaitza. Jamika’s children were her pride and joy. Jamika wanted nothing more than to see her children happy and successful in life.
Jamika had a very close relationship with her cousin Kysha. Jamika referenced Kisha as her big sister. The bond they shared created a lifetime of cherished memories.
Jamika leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving children Aniya Reed, Trayvon Moore, and Jaitza Lee. Mother, Cherry Dowtin-Cannon, Grandmother, Virginia Dowtin, siblings, Daisy Moore, William Moore, Jerone Moore, Wesley Moore and Gregory Cannon. Aunts: Gloria Dowtin, Joann Curry, Kathey Smith and Uncle Leon Smith, Cousin/ "Big Sister” Kysha Dowtin, Godmother Connie, Close friends Jasmine “Bertha”, Christel, Kecia, and Katridra “Dedra” and a host of family and friends.
