James "Jah" Penson

JAH born James Eugene Penson, the beloved son of Eugene Harris and Robin Penson. JAH was born in Staten Island, NY on March 26, 1974. Jah was known all everywhere he went along with his sister Martha and cousins Fred Fred, Monk Monk, Lawanna and close friend Ricki. 

Jay Love is the first of Robin’s three children along with Martha and Phylicia and the first of Eugene’s children. In August of 2003 Jay married Christine Stewart where they raised their beautiful daughter Tanaya together. He also was a father figure to his niece and nephew Quadirah and Damien. Alongside his sisters Marty, Whompa and Monique. 

Growing up JAH studied Muslim, Rastafarian and 5% with his uncles and cousins. Jah was one of the best people you can ever have the pleasure of knowing. Always lending a helping hand, an open ear and a mouth full of advice. Even if it wasn’t asked for. Brightening up everyone’s day with that smile. 

James shared his life and love with Lakisha Gregg and their family of 3 daughters Tanaya, Shadiyah and Melasia. 5 grandchildren: Madison, Maleah, Makari, Memori and Maya. James made sure we knew that he loved us everyday with his words of encouragement and protection. Being the best grandfather our babies could ask for. 

On October 10,2025 JAH was called home by his father. We are assured that he has found his peace while laughing, joking, and smoking weed as he journeys beyond this lifetime. 

Along with Kisha and their family, siblings and road dog cousins, James is survived by his Aunts Julia, Margie, Veronica, Pat, and Malone. One Uncle Larry. Sister/cousins Debbie, Priscilla and Ada, all of Clarisse children, his group home brothers and a host of friends and women that loved him.
