Harriet Christina High (affectionately known as Chris) was born on February 3, 1951, she received her wings on December 13, 2021. Chris graduated from Fort Hamilton High School. She started working at New York City Off Track Betting Corporation at the age of 19. Chris worked her way up from the typing pool all the way to Director of the entire Administrative Services Department. During her thirty-five years there, Chris was the person everyone went to for everything. It was known, whatever you need, call Chris High. Chris did her job above and beyond what was required of her. She was a friend to everyone and once you met her it was hard not to want to know her. She had a personality that just made you feel like you knew her your whole life.
Chris also worked with the NAACP Chapters, she was secretary for the New York City OTB Branch, and continually worked with the NAACP New York State Conference as personal assistant to the honorable Hazel N. Dukes. Chris worked tirelessly with the branches, for every conference and event, as a result she built up many years of experience, earned several rewards for her work, and gained many close friends and partners.
Chris had a larger-than-life personality and made a lasting impression on everyone she’s ever met. She opened her heart & her arms to anyone in need. Her bright smile matched her beautiful soul. Her witty sense of humor is unmatched, and she had a gift for telling it like it is. She will be sorely missed and hard to replace.
Chris is preceded in death by her mother Daisy Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory her father Eugene Williams, her five brothers Harold Williams, Farrell Williams, Darrell Williams, Eugene “Stinky” Williams, and Kenneth “Boo” Williams, her most cherished accomplishment her daughter Janeen Jones, her fur babies Fendi and Syven, a host of nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins, and many many friends.
