Dr. Pauline Josephs – A Beautiful Spirit and Light


Dr. Pauline Josephs was born on September 2, 1957 in Kingston, Jamaica to late parents Lloyd Davis and
Mable Hinds. Dr. Pauline Josephs was one of 12 siblings; Sylvia, Roy, Yvonne, Donnett, Garth, Pamela,
Simon, Robert, Olive, Conrad, and Noel. After her mother passed in 1974, Dr. Pauline Josephs stepped
up to help raise her siblings and became “the rock and glue” of her immediate and extended family. In
1975 she immigrated to the United States to live with her father. Pauline Josephs and Carl Josephs -
who had known each other as children in Jamaica- began dating in 1976 . They were married on April
14, 1979. In the course of their relationship they raised four beautiful children; Nichole born in 1976 ,
Carl Jr born 2 years later in 1978 ; Cheryl in 1979 and in 1989 a surprise , Kaisha.

Dr. Pauline Josephs had many careers over the course of her lifetime. She worked as a support staff in a
group home for boys at the YMCA and held many other titles , always doing her part in providing for the
family. She was hardworking, determined and persistent. Dr. Pauline Josephs wanted to ensure that all
of her family members were taken care of and offered support, guidance, and sometimes a home when
they needed it most. Dr. Pauline Josephs was a mother to all and helped to raise not only her own
children, but many of her cousins, nieces and nephews. Additionally, she was a loving grandmother to
Jabari, Amira, Isaiah, and Calvin. Her family knew that they could always rely on her and she was sure to
show up and be present in all of her family relationships. Dr. Pauline Josephs developed bonds and
friendships with numerous people but her friendships with Lorna Morris, Carol Coleman, and her sister-
in- law Sharon Josephs were true examples of sisterhood. Dr. Pauline Josephs influenced so many lives
and has helped so many people outside of her family circles. She was truly a kind and sweet spirit that
everyone loved. Dr. Pauline Josephs could light up a room with her pure heart, encouraging words, and
laugh. To many , she was an absolute superhero.

Dr. Pauline Josephs was a God fearing woman and loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was a
member of Fellowship Baptist Church since 1999. Dr. Pauline Josephs dedicated her life to serving in the
Lord’s house and became a pillar within her church. Dr. Pauline Josephs joined and actively supported
various ministries within her church. She held positions in the Nurse’s Ministry , Pastor’s Aide Ministry ,
Women’s Ministry , Missionary Ministry , the Praise Ministry and also served as Sunday school teacher.
She was a fixture at Sunday Services and Wednesday Night Bible Study . She participated and
volunteered for virtually all church events and services . Dr. Pauline Josephs loved her church family as
much as her biological family. She had a reputation for lending support to everyone in her orbit
whether it was giving them a ride , calling to check-in or lending a listening ear.

Dr. Pauline Josephs had numerous academic accomplishments. In 1984 she received her Bachelors in
Business Finance from Brooklyn College. Dr. Pauline Josephs returned to school to obtain her Bachelors
and Masters for Religious Instruction . In 2015, she earned her Doctorate in Sacred Theology. Dr.
Pauline Josephs worked for New York State Insurance Fund ( NYSIF) for 31 years. She was a dedicated
employee who was acknowledged through promotions and advancements in her career. She retired in
2019 from NYSIF as a supervisor.

Dr. Pauline Josephs enjoyed traveling, indulging in cultural events such as plays, musicals, and concerts.
She loved to share these experiences with her children, her grandchildren, her church family, or with
her sisterhood. Dr. Pauline Josephs was a supporter, an encourager, and an advocate. She was adoring,
beautiful and a strong woman. Dr. Pauline Josephs was a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, and
a friend. She will forever be loved and truly missed. All though she is gone in body she is still with us in
spirit. Dr. Pauline Josephs is no longer suffering or in pain and is in the Kingdom of Heaven enjoying all
the Lord has to offer. Everyone that knew and loved Dr. Pauline Josephs knows that Heaven has now
gained an Angel. She has always looked out for her family while she was on earth and she will continue
to do so in spirit.
