Dory Jacobs Obituary

Dory Andrew Jacobs was born January 30,1963 to Edwardo Jacobs and Ruby Benjamin. He departed this life on October 13, 2020.

Dory was born in New York City, but was raised in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, where he lived until the death of his mother, after which he moved back to the states. Dory was an active basketball player. Later transitioning into coach.

He played basketball for the Jr. National Team in St. Croix. While in the states he played at Marietta H.S. in Georgia. When he moved to Harlem with his brother Edward he played for the Gouchos, and later playing for the Longburg Institute in North Carolina.

Throughout his adulthood Dory coached both boys and girls basketball teams, impacting youth both on and off the court. He was a motivator and he encouraged every young person that crossed his path to be a better them. Dory had a big heart and he operated in Love.

Dory worked as a laborer throughout his life. He married Tonya Montgomery September 22, 1989 and they had 2 children and an adopted daughter together. Dory and Tonya were married for 31 years. Prior to his union with his wife, Dory had 4 other children.

Dory was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Benjamin, father Edwardo Jacobs, brothers Barnell Jacobs, Omar Jacobs, Edward Richardson, Joseph Richardson, Norman Richardson, and sister Rose Brown.

He is survived by his wife Tonya Jacobs, children Dory Jacobs Jr., O'Keef Jacobs, Andre Charles, Qu'Asia Jacobs, Starr Lentz, Courtney Jacobs, and Christian Jacobs. Grandchildren Taj Jacobs, Skylar Lentz, King Benjamin Jacobs, Damon Lentz Jr., and Isaiah Lentz. Sisters Lenor Richardson, Yvell Nelson and Olevine Rawlins. Brothers Glen Dennary, Antonio Richardson, and Douglas Richardson. Sister in Law Margaret Richardson, Mother in Law Carol Asbury Williams, and Son in Law Damon Lentz. Dory is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews including Carolyn Pantoja, John Pantoja, Jazmine Montgomery, and Jermaine Jacobs.

Dory's untimely death has affected his loved ones tremendously and although he is not with us physically his memory will live on and his spirit will be with us all always
