Ms. Dorothy M. Clarke, the last of five children born to Mr. Vincent and Mrs. Henerita Burroughs, gained her wings on October 17, 2024. Dorothy was born on January 18, 1947 in New York, New York. Her four brothers and sisters predeceased her several years ago.
Dorothy graduated from Fashion Industries High School in 1965. In 1970, she graduated from LPN School. She continued to pursue her nursing career and graduated from an RN program in 1980. In 1990, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. After a long and rewarding career in nursing, working at Willowbrook, Brooklyn Developmental Center and Kingsborough Psychiatric Center, she retired in 2011.
Sister Dorothy enjoyed traveling the world with her sister, brothers and friends from the Senior Center. She moved from the Lower East Side to Queensbridge and then settled in Staten Island where she raised her two sons, Edward (Eddie) Clarke, Sr. and James C. Moses. She was introduced to the SDA message in 1976 and decided to join the SI Seventh Day Adventist Church on 80 Union Ave. 10303. She became a Deaconess and served in any capacity needed in the church or the community.
She is survived by her children: eldest son, Edward (Eddie) Clarke, Sr., and son, James C. Moses(Ayeisha S. Moses). Her five grandchildren, Kim Scott, Eddie Jr., Sayeed Moses, Amina Moses and Bakari Moses. Her nieces, Celeste, Tracey, Darlene, Chantell, Arlene and nephews, John Jr., Willie (Sil), Anthony, Alfred (Stacey), Vincent, Shawn, Charles (Charley), Tyshime and a host of great nieces and nephews.
