Doreen Elizabeth Josey, a life long resident of Staten Island was born to the late Dora and Charles Jones of the Stapleton section of Staten Island. She attended PS 13 where she graduated and then went on to graduate from Curtis High School and the Living Waters Bible College. Doreen spent over 35 years in commercial banking with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Bank and retired from the Bank of New York in 2002.
Many years ago, she met Edward Josey at a party given by a mutual friend. They both worked in the same area in Manhattan and Edward invited her to lunch at a local hot dog wagon, which led to a courtship of two years. They eventually were married and spent the next 50 wonderful years together.
Doreen was active in community organizations that included the Staten Island League for Better Government, and the Staten Island Branch of the NAACP, where she was part of the Executive Board and an active life member of the NAACP, traveling the country to attend many National Conventions. Doreen received a NYC Council Proclamation in 2013 as an Unsung Hero recognized by National Council of Negro Women, based on the being the driving force with her husband Edward Josey in his role as President of the Staten Island Branch of the NAACP for thirty years.

Doreen met her lifelong friend Marilyn at Pentecostal Faith Church of God and were inseparable for over sixty years. In her youth she was a member of the singing group the Promiseers with her cousin James Sarjeant, Lorraine (Johnson) Hite, later joining the group was her cousin Lawrence Sarjeant and Marilyn (Allen) Landry. Doreen continued her service throughout her adult life eventually becoming the Administrator and Trustee of the church until her passing. She loved the young people and always encouraged them to do their best.  Throughout her life service to God, and the Church was one of the most important parts of her life.
In her younger years, Doreen was an avid bowler in a number of bowling leagues. She loved to shop and send cards. She enjoyed traveling including a trip to Hawaii and timeshare in the Bahamas. She also enjoyed delicious food and dining out with her extended family weekly.
