Derrick " Duke" Carter

Derrick “Duke” Carter unexpectedly departed this earth February 24th 2025 in Stapleton New York at the age of 40.

DUKE born Derrick Rondell Carter, the beloved son of Sheila (Shameeka) Carter and Derrick Wilson. DUKE was born in Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn NY on May 11, 1984. By the age of 5, DUKE and his mom moved to Staten Island NY in the New Brighton Community, where Shameeka met Gregory Lee and their family grew with the arrival of Mishonia. Duke graduated from PS 31and IS 61. Attending Curtis HS for one year before moving to Washington DC with his loving Uncle and Aunt Russell and Nicki Carter and cousin/brother Dee. Where he graduated from Dunbar HS. Duke continued his talents in basket in DC playing in various tournaments he also found a love for modeling and picked up the stage name “Pretty Ricky” in Dunbar fashion shows. After high school Duke moved to New York and lived with family and continued his love for basketball playing in tournaments all over Staten Island from Mahoney Park to the Berry Homes and also away games.

DUKE loved himself, loved life, loved his family and friends and most of all DUKE loved his children. Always getting on people nerve and playing too much but was someone you can count on. He was the right-hand man to many of his friend. Hence the name the Standup Guy. Very popular with the ladies where he picked up the name Kattdaddy DUKE and Pretty Ricky. Duke worked for NYCHA and TJ Maxx on a full-time bases and still always made time for his children.

On February 24, 2025 DUKE was called home to be in heaven with his Grandparents.

To cherish the memory of his smile, laugh, by his weird food he ate, and love he showed everyone, DUKE is survived by his parents; Sheila and Derrick, grandparents Irving Carter and Peggy Carter, siblings Mishonia, Dee, and Lasandra. 6 children Savannah, Nia’miah, Juston, Delilah, Deja and DJ and a host of cousins, Aunts and Uncles.
