Cynthia Burton

November 17, 1960 ~ October 11, 2020 (age 59)


Cynthia Ann Burton was born in New York City November 17, 1960 to the late Raymond 
Paul Burton Jr. and Helen Burton. She departed this life peacefully on Sunday, October 
11, 2020 at Richmond University Medical Center, Staten Island, New York after a brief 
Cynthia affectionately known to her family and friends as ‘Baby Cynthia,’ grew up in 
Flushing, Queens New York and in later years settled in Staten Island, New York.
Cynthia was a devoted, hardworking, caring provider and nurturing mother to two sons, 
Raymond P. Burton lll and John Burton. With a generous spirit she shared all she had 
with them in their upbringing.
Cynthia received her education from the New York City Public School system and 
graduated from Port Richmond High School in June of 1979. She went on to achieve 
College credits which afforded her the opportunity to be employed in the New York City 
Board of Education as a Para-Professional. During her tenure at PS 721, The Richard 
H. Hungerford School, Cynthia provided services to a diverse population of students 
with special needs for almost 22 years.
Cynthia was highly respected and loved by the students, colleagues, administrators and 
the community. Cynthia also worked for many years for A H R C formerly known as 
NYSARC INC. New York City. She provided services for young people with intellectual 
and developmental disabilities.
Cynthia was a caring, compassionate lover of dogs and cats. She provided shelter for 
many stray dogs and cats found in the community. If she had the accommodation, she 
surely would shelter all the strays she would find.
Cynthia held fast to her beliefs in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She loved attending 
Church Services and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She participated in 
varied Church programs, activities and the general fellowship of believers.
Cynthia appreciated all music genres from gospel to jazz. She also loved and enjoyed 
attending a variety of Broadway musicals and plays.
Her legacy of love and caring will be cherished and remembered by: her two sons 
Raymond and John, her sisters Doreena and Edwina, two grandchildren, Queen Lydia 
Burton and King Malachia Burton, Aunts, cousins, relatives, colleagues and many friends 
who were the beneficiaries of her love and kindness.
