Clifton "Sonny" Thomas, III.

Clifton “Sonny” Thomas III died peacefully on January 14, 2026 in Staten Island, NY at the age of 71. His family would call him “Sonny” but to everyone else he was “Cliff”.

Clifton Thomas III was born on October 29, 1954 to Clifton Thomas Jr. & Laura Atkinson Thomas.  He was born and raised in the Tottenville section of Staten Island with his 4 siblings. He graduated from Tottenville Highschool and enlisted in the US Army on June 6, 1974.

Cliff served as a metal worker MOS 448 for 4 years. He re-enlisted as a field radio repairman MOS 31E20 for 2 years, then deployed to Germany for a year. He returned state side to Fort Campbell, Kentucky to complete his training; where he met his future spouse, Janis Morgan. He was later reassigned to Fort Devens, Massachusetts, during which time the couple welcomed two children: Clifton IV followed by Kenya Thomas. Cliff transitioned into civilian life where he became a computer technician working for Honeywell in addition to AT&T during his career.

Clifton is survived by his daughter, Kenya Katrice Thomas, siblings, Alvin Thomas, Elizabeth Thomas, Shawn Thomas, Ex-wife, Janis Morgan Thomas and a host of nieces and nephews.

Clifton was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Thomas II, Son, Clifton Thomas IV, Brother, Raymond Thomas and Mother, Laura Thomas.
