Carolyn Ernestine Gilmer ; Amazing mother, Beloved Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Cousin. The sun rose in Brooklyn New York as Carolyn entered on September 4th 1940. She was the second of five children gifted to Roscoe Gray and Frances Ophelia Meadows -Gray. Carolyn graduated from Virginia Union College where she received an Associates Degree in science. She graduated from the radiology program at Marine Hospital on Staten Island in the 1960’s as a Radiology Technician.
Carolyn specializing in mammography and retired from Bayle Seton hospital in 2006 after over 30 years in the profession. She was truly a great woman loving and supportive mother, grandmother sister and aunt. Carolyn was deeply rooted in her family loved to attend family gatherings from vacation to holidays.
She loved spending time with children grand -children, siblings and host nieces, nephews and cousins. She will forever be remembered as a family oriented woman whose very presence commanded respect. A strong, brave witty woman who spoke her mind unapologetically. A woman whose belief and faith are deeply rooted in the word of God.
She is survived by her 3 children:Itisha Bowen-West, Frances Bowen and Steven Gilmer; 7 Grandchildren: Tishanda-Malasia L. Mckay, Sequell H. Cotto, Lanya Campbell, Joseph E. Bowen, Hunter E. West, Aidan J. Bowen, Hudson P.West Son-in law Christopher A. West. Siblings,Dorothy J. Thompson, Joseph R. Gray, Gloria A. McLean, Barbara J. Gray. Adopted Siblings; Shana M. Gray, Tyrell S. Gray. Close loving relatives Bernice Alleyne, George Meadows, Laras Radney. Nieces and Nephews; Dorothya Thompson, Joseph R. Gray Jr, Andriena Thompson, Rudoolph Thompson Felicia Huertas, Michael R. Gray, Amie-Rebecca McLean, Lanise Wiggins, Lanay Smith, Dennis Holley and Host of grand nieces and nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents Roscoe Gray and Frances Ophelia Meadows -Gray; her maternal aunt Missouria Walker “ Aunt Lulie “ and host of aunts and uncles.
