Brenda Mae Morris-Thompson (Grandma) was born on January 25, 1943, at Bronx Lebanon Hospital to the late William and Virginia Morris. She was educated in the New York City Public School System and attended P.S. 39 through the 8th grade. She continued her studies at Julia Richmond All-Girls High School before transferring to Taft High School. After completing her education, Brenda discovered a deep passion for learning and nurturing young minds. She worked at Powhatan Elementary School as a Teacher's Aide, where her love for children and education truly shined. She always expressed to the youth how important an education was. Throughout her life, she also worked at several notable organizations, including Herritin in Williamstown, NJ, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdale's. In addition, Brenda proudly served her community by working the Election Polls for over 15 years. Brenda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her heart, wisdom, and spirit touched every life she encountered. Welcoming her into Heaven are her beloved parents, William and Virginia Morris; her siblings William Jr., Loretta, Donald, Patricia, Jimmy, Warren, Pewe, Gregory, and Moco Morris; her daughters Linette and Crystal Thompson; her additional son Cody Thompson; and her grandchildren Darnell, Foster III, Candice, Babygirl Linette Serinity, and Adrianna Thompson.
Cherishing her memory forever are her devoted husband, Foster Thompson; her children Bunny, Charlene, Sharon, Foster Jr., Gregory, Monique, and Mark; her additional children Leah, Brenda, Davina, David, and Brittany Thompson; and her brothers Pep, Karl, and Keith Morris. She leaves behind a beautiful and extensive legacy through her grandchildren: Bunny, David, Dominic, Derrick, Kenita, Charlene, Anabel, Charisma, Diamond, Tiffany, Christina, Tyquan, Toya, Benny, Krystle, Kasi, Donnell, Tyjanee, Kody, Koby, Kimora, Latrell, Marquise, and Mark. Brenda’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain in our hearts forever. Brenda's heart always belonged to Harlem, the neighborhood where she grew up and formed lifelong memories. The spirit of Harlem shaped her—its music, community, and culture stayed with her throughout her life.
Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother
We gather to honor the life of a remarkable woman—loving mother, devoted wife, caring sister, and extraordinary grandmother. Her love was the steady heartbeat of our family, grounding us, guiding us, and reminding us every day what it meant to be cared for unconditionally. As a mother, she gave everything she had. Her strength, warmth, and gentle wisdom shaped the lives of her children in lasting ways. As a grandmother, she raised many of her grandchildren as if they were her very own, giving them the same devotion, protection, and boundless love. Her presence made our lives fuller, safer, and brighter. Brenda also held a very special place in her heart for her late father, William Morris. The bond they shared was one she cherished deeply throughout her life. She often spoke of the lessons he taught her, including how to play the Lottery numbers-something that became one of her favorite pastimes. Every ticket she played carried memories of him and the joy they shared together. Today, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved father in Heaven.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: savoring her favorite BBQ meals, enjoying her beloved trips to Olive Garden, and many more. Brenda embraced the excitement of Atlantic City's slot machines. Every lottery ticket she played carried her unmistakable spirit of hope—hope for luck, for joy, and for the little surprises life might bring. The Hard Rock Casino was like a second home to Brenda. She loved the excitement, the music, and the thrill of the games, creating many happy memories there with family and friends. A true fan at heart, she cheered passionately for her New York Knicks, celebrating every win and remaining loyal through every season. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and her love for the game reflected the same loyalty she gave to the people she loved. As a wife, she poured her heart into her marriage, standing side by side with her partner through every chapter of life. As a sister, she brought laughter, comfort, and a bond that time could never break.
Her legacy is one of love, resilience, humor, and family. She taught us how to be strong, how to be hopeful, and most importantly, how to love without limits. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in every memory we hold close and in every lesson she entrusted to us. Her love remains woven into the foundation of our lives.
Rest peacefully, Mom and Grandma. Thank you for your endless love. We will carry your spirit in our hearts forever.
