Brenda Greene, age 60, died of a brief illness on August 24, 2024, in Staten Island, NY.

Brenda was born on July 4, 1964, in Brooklyn, NY to Ida-Mae Jordan and James Greene. She graduated and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts from the City College of New York in January 1998. In 2003, she accepted a position as Deputy Director of Administration at the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs and has since totaled 39 years of service to the city. She successfully retired in 2024.

Brenda was a committed family woman and a loving mother. She was married to Nicholas Owoyemi in 1993, and the couple had two children together.

Brenda was a good-natured, strong, and dedicated woman who was deeply involved in the church and invested in her relationship with God. She became a member of the Brighton Heights Reformed Church shortly after moving to Staten Island. She participated in the various ministries; including Church Life, Women’s Fellowship, the Sanctuary Choir, and she enjoyed attending Bible Study. In her free time, Brenda enjoyed watching old Black and White movies, going on shopping runs, and spending time with and celebrating her loved ones. Her family and friends will always remember her as a selfless, faithful, and resilient person.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Nicholas Owoyemi; her sons Nicholas and Brendyn Owoyemi; her step-mother Betsy Hyman-Greene; her siblings James Greene, Linda Greene, McCleney Greene, and Milton Greene; a host of nieces and nephews across New York and Lagos, Nigeria; as well as countless family and friends who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents Ida-Mae Jordan and James Greene, and her siblings Nathaniel Greene and Francis Greene. Brenda’s values of faith and altruism will long inspire all who knew her to glorify God and to always be their best self for those around them.

The wake will be held on September 4, 2024, from 10-1am then 5-8pm. The funeral service is scheduled for 9am on September 5, 2024, at Brighton Heights Reformed Church, 320 St. Marks Place, Staten Island, NY 10301. The interment will follow at noon on September 5, 2024, at Rosehill Cemetery in New Jersey. Afterwards, there will be a repass back at Brighton Heights for 1:30pm.
