Bessie Walker was born on Saturday, January 17, 1947, in Livingston, Alabama, to the late Bester Gee and Mamie Thomas. However, her official records list her date of birth as January 5th 1947. She attended Bells Institute Elementary School and graduated from Sumter County Training School in Livingston, Alabama, in 1964.
Later that same year, Bessie moved to Staten Island, New York, where she built her life and career. She worked for several companies before beginning her employment with AT&T. She later continued her career with Verizon, from which she retired after 33 years of dedicated service.
After retirement, Bessie returned to Alabama for a period of time. There she joined Bethel Pine Baptist Church before moving back to New York to be closer to her growing family and to enjoy her role as a grandmother.
At an early age, Bessie confessed Christ and joined Greater Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Boyd, Alabama. While living in Staten Island, she became a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She later joined St. Philip's Baptist Church in Staten Island, where she served faithfully until her health began to decline.
In March of 1991, Bessie was initiated into Silver Queen chapter No.43.          She served as Worthy Matron in 1996 and 1997 and volunteered on various committees.  Her favorite station within the chapter was Chaplain, a position she served for many years with dedication and devotion. She also served as Grand Chaplain for Eureka Grand Chapter under several administrations. In recognition of her faithful service, she was granted the distinguished title of Grand Chaplain Emeritus in 2019.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, Bester Gee and Mamie Thomas, and her 17 siblings.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughter, Nicole Walker; her granddaughter, Serenity Nevaeh Edwards, both of Staten Island, New York; her sisters, Judy M. Daymond and Pauline Slayton; and sister-in-law Modine Gee Walton all of Alabama. She also leaves a host of beloved nephews, nieces, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
Bessie's unwavering faith, loving spirit, devotion to her family and the kindness she extended to everyone she met will be remembered and treasured by all who knew and loved her.
