Berdell Thomas, age 78 passed away on January 20, 2023, at Brooklyn Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. She is preceded in death by her mother, Corine Agnew (nee Thomas), and her siblings Clark Davis, Isabel Johnson, and Ronald Agnew.
Berdell was born on March 20, 1944, in Wise, Warren County, North Carolina as the third of seven children. She spent her early childhood years in South Hill, VA. As a teen, Berdell relocated to Brooklyn, NY, where she received additional education through the New York City school system. She later joined Job Corps; moving to California where she completed her high school education. When she moved back to Brooklyn, she attended the New York City Technical College, studying Commercial and Advertising Art for 1 year.
From 1978 until her retirement in 2007 (29 years), Berdell worked for the New York City Police Department as a Police Communications Technician (PCT). During her tenure, she made life-long friends, and served as a professional mentor to many. She was very proud of her work, never hesitating to have conversations whenever the moment presented itself.
Berdell was an avid lover of music, and an enthusiastic football fan. Her favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. She also liked to collect souvenir key chains and figurines. Family and friends will remember her as a loving person, who never hesitated to help whenever possible.
Berdell is survived by her daughter, Felicia Thomas, of Brooklyn, NY; her Granddaughter, Giovanna Armstrong of Brooklyn, NY; her siblings, Dorothy Johnson (Florida), Gerald Agnew (North Carolina) and Doreen Agnew (Bronx, NY); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and those who lovingly considered her as “Mom”.
