Arvin Maurice Brown, 72, of Staten Island, NY, passed away on March 17, 2025, following a prolonged illness. He was born to Joseph Brown and Betty Logan-Brown and was the third child in the family, sharing a special bond with his twin sister, Audrey.
In his youth, Arvin attended P.S. 44 and later McKee High School. He worked at Willowbrook State School and Frederick Douglass Funeral Home. In the 1990s, Arvin relocated to Raleigh, NC.
While in North Carolina, Arvin drew from his trade experience and began working in welding. He and his crew worked together building and installing ductwork for restaurants in the area. These workmen became fast friends, black, white, mixed race. It didn’t matter to Arvin as long as you were a decent human being. He enjoyed working with his hands, so much so, he would occasionally pick up side jobs. A few of these include, house painting and general contracting laying hardwood floors, window replacement and roof repair.
After retirement Arvin decided to return to his hometown, the Mariner's Harbor area of Staten Island, NY, in 2023. Here he was able to reconnect with family and life-long friendships.
He cherished spending time with his family and friends, often playing spades with his buddies. An avid music lover, Arvin would often walk into the house and say, "Turn that thing on," referring to the Bluetooth speaker. He had a special love for children, enjoying moments with his own kids as well as his nieces and nephews, especially outdoors. Fishing was a favored past-time. He could always be counted on to watch over the kids playing in the neighborhood. Arvin enjoyed fixing things and working in the yard. One of his greatest pleasures was eating, and he took great pride in cooking, often whipping up a meal in no time.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joseph Brown.
Arvin leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Phoretta Brown; sons, Damien Taylor-Brown, William Dale, and Tarsheen Dale; daughter, Toreen Brown; grandson, Torron Smart; brother, Gerald Logan (Cecil); sisters, Audrey Saunders, Sharon Brown-Allen, and Margaret (Cookie) Melton, close friend and confidant, Joanie Solomon and mentee Terrell Jackson, of North Carolina: and a host of other family members and friends."
