July 14, 1998 - April 25, 2026
Arnold Justin O’Brien, also known as AJ (27), of Staten Island, passed away on
April 25, 2026.
Life & Legacy
Born on July 14, 1998, in Staten Island New York Arnold Justin, better known as AJ,
was the son of Carol Ann Casey-Lalgee and the late Arnold O’Brien Sr. AJ built a life
defined by compassion, kindness, hard work and humor. He loved his family, cars,
embracing new adventures and serving his country. His kindness truly touched
everyone who encountered him.
AJ attended and graduated from New Dorp High School and went on to obtain his
bachelor’s degree in social work at the College of Staten Island. AJ loved to work and
keep himself busy. He began working for Amazon and was eager to embark on his own
endeavors. AJ’s love of cars led him to open his own car detailing business, and he was
the right-hand man for his stepfather’s landscaping business before enlisting in the
United States Army. The Army is where AJ thrived and became more grounded as to
what he wanted out of life. He spent his most recent days serving overseas in
Baumholder, Germany with the 5th Battery, 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery
Regiment, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command also known as the “Bounty
Hunters”. He earned the rank of Specialist as a 14T and was responsible for operating,
maintaining, and reloading the Patriot Missile System, which defends against aerial
threats. He completed his first 4-year contract and without hesitation he re-enlisted for
another 6 years. He took great pride in serving his country and has been posthumously
awarded the rank of Sargeant. He approached every situation with a positive attitude
and was full of energy and life.
Above all, AJ loved his family and friends, and he had a special place in his heart for his
mother, whom he shared a birthday with. He took great interest in attending car shows
and going to the racetrack. He was a member of the No Power NYC car club and could
often be found at car meets throughout Staten Island. He loved anime, gaming, singing
and a good game of roulette and blackjack in Atlantic City. He will be missed by all that
knew him.
AJ is survived by his mother Carol Ann Casey-Lalgee and stepfather Jude Ancel
Lalgee. His 2 sisters, Elaine Antoinette Casey and Shanila Zhané Casey. His nephew,
Shawn DeBerry Jr, and niece Sage Marie Casey. His maternal grandmother, Mary Ann
Casey, paternal aunt and uncle, Micheal and Millie O’Brien, and longtime partner and
confidant, Jomarie DeLargo. He is also survived by a host of cousins, great aunts and
uncles, and a long list of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Arnold O’Brien Sr., aunt, Elaine Marie Casey, great
Aunt, Marie Elizabeth McCombs, great uncle, Charlisi ‘Rico’ McCombs, and Rosetta and
Luis Bunch, great uncle’s Marvin and Ronald Casey and grandfather, SGT Homer E. Casey.
