Aleathia Louise Barnes was born on March 9, 1964, in Brooklyn, NY. She was the beloved daughter and youngest of 10, of Hill and Olivia Barnes, who preceded her in death. Aleathia was also preceded in death by her brothers Joseph, Theodore, William, Hill Jr., Paul, and Jeremiah Barnes, who passed away within the following days of his sister.

Affectionately known as “Lee Lee” or “Auntie Lee Lee” by her family and friends, Aleathia was known for her quick wit and sharp tongue. Her sense of humor always kept those around her laughing. She was loving, kind, dedicated, caring, and her fashionable and stylish presence left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Always the life of the party and the glue that kept her family close, Aleathia cherished spending time with her loved ones and was always eager to create lasting memories.

In her professional life, Aleathia had a fulfilling career as a Civil Servant for the Department of Finance Sheriff’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, where she worked for 33 years. Her dedication and commitment to her work were commendable and gave her the opportunity to make life-long friendships until her retirement in July of 2021.

Outside of work, Aleathia had a zest for life and enjoyed dancing, with a fondness for hibachi and seafood, which she indulged in whenever she had the chance. A devoted mother, she especially cherished spending time with her daughter Krystle, and long visits with her brother Bobby in Long Island and her niece Chawana and nephews in Upstate, NY.

Aleathia departed this earth on January 11, 2024, at the age of 59 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is survived by her daughter Krystle Barnes-Iwediebo, grandson Weston, and son-in-law Raymond. She also leaves behind her brother Robert Barnes, sisters Mary Walden & Gwendolyn Barnes, sister-in-law Jessie Barnes, brother-in-law Lee Duane Walden, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Aleathia will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
