Charlotte Bernice Harper, 79, of Staten Island NY passed away on Saturday, December 8th 2018 in New York City. Charlotte was born on February 19, 1939 in Burkeville, VA to Allen Mallory Miller and Anna Gertrude Hall Miller. She attended Burkeville Elementary School and Luther H. Foster High School where she met her future husband James Edward Harper, Jr. They had three sons out of their union – Anthony James, Vincent Lee and Michael Edward.
Charlotte was a long time resident of Staten Island. Prior to living in Staten Island, her family lived in Coney Island, NY. At her core, Charlotte was an exceptional Travel Agent. She worked for the American Automobile Association (AAA) in New York City and retired after 30 years of service. It was through this position that she was able to travel around the world. Following her retirement, she was a travel business owner and later worked for Intercruises, Inc as a Hotel Coordinator. In these positions she assisted countless travelers around the globe reach their destination.
Charlotte was a great story teller who loved to speak of her travel experiences and growing up as a young child. She held passions for music, gardening and making her home stylish and comfortable for all who entered. She was also known for being an amazing cook, who hosted Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, summer barbeques and even wedding receptions. Lastly, Charlotte was a helping spirit. She was often a caregiver, a mother figure to many and her home was always open for family and friends. Charlotte loved her family dearly and left many life lessons for all us to follow.
Charlotte is predeceased by her late husband James Harper Jr., her siblings Margaret, Clarence, Floyd, Thelma, Mildred and Lillian. She is survived by her brothers James and Mallory, her sons Anthony, Vincent and Michael and her daughter-in-laws Mittie, Dee and Denise. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Shanelia, Gerald, Liana, Michael, Jason, Angela, Taylor and Christina and 13 great grandchildren.
