Linda McCollum Obituary

Linda Denise McCollum was born to the late James McCollum and Lottie Mae McCollum. She attended the New York City public school system. After graduating from high school, she pursued a higher education in nursing but she quickly turned in another direction when she realized that she couldn’t stand the sight of blood.(lol) She then tried her hand at cosmetology as she enrolled in The Barbizon Academy Beauty School where she found her passion for hairstyling. So much so that hairstyling became her profession and life long career.

Linda was a beautiful person. You could feel her spirit through her magical hands. Everyone that came in contact with her, she touched their life in her own special way. She had a huge heart and always had an open door for anyone who needed it. She was an inspiration of strength and courage to many. She had the ability to turn nothing into something. She displayed “Motherhood” in an exemplary way. Just as she was a great mother to many, one can only imagine how she was to her own. As a single parent, raising two boys wasn’t easy but Linda made it look so. She was able to keep them out of the pit falls that most black men face today. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her children. Her dream was completed when she gave birth to her beautiful daughter Shantiqua aka “Teeny”. From that blessing something that none of us expected came a beautiful young lady that would become her daughter also and a sibling to us as if Linda birthed her herself, Shanta.

The strength and courage that Linda was for her family came from the bond she has with her parents. After losing her father, she became even closer to her Mom who is still the matriarch of the entire family.(Lottie Mae)

Linda was proceeded in death by her father James McCollum. She leaves to mourn her mother Lottie Mae McCollum, brother- Larry McCollum, sisters- Renee Baker and Patricia Bradswell, sons- Dwayne McCollum and Gregory (Darnell) Henderson, daughters- Shantiqua(Teeny) Liverman and Shanta Liverman, 11 grandchildren- Darnell Jr., Lyndaniasia, Jordan, Shala, Dwayne Jr., Najae, Elijah, Dasia, Genesis, Noah, and Noel. Her close friend known to her children as “Aunt Sylvia” , Luther McCoy and the McCoy family, Al and Lisa Alexander and the Alexander family as well as the “Showtime” family. A host of nephews and adopted nieces, many clients, and friends both near and far.
