Georgia McDonald
November 5, 1933 ~ August 13, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years OldGeorgia McDonald, age 83, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017.
Ms. McDonald was born on November 5, 1933 in Mobile, Alabama to her parents Otis and Margurite Bonner. Ms. McDonald was educated in Staten Island’s public schools and, after graduating from Tottenville High School, began her first career at Willowbrook State School, followed by her second career with the U.S. Postal Service and her third at Mount Loretto. She also owned and operated a restaurant on Targee Street.
After her retirement from Mount Loretto, Ms. McDonald became a dedicated steward at Stapleton U.A.M.E. Church. For the past 30 years, she has assisted with the daily activities and programs associated with the church, including the Community Outreach Ministry, the Soup Kitchen as well as the Food Pantry.
Ms. McDonald is survived by her daughter Deborah Mitchell-Chesson, her sister Lillian, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Gary Mitchell, her first husband Raymond Mitchell, her second husband, James McDonald, and her sisters Cassie Branch and Laura VanScott.
Both the viewing and funeral for Georgia will take place on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Stapleton U.A.M.E. Church, 49 Tompkins Avenue, Staten Island, NY. The viewing hours are from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral will begin at 6:00pm. Reverend Maggie M. Howard will officiate. A reception will follow at the same location.
